Go Fishing on AMI

“Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish, he’ll be hooked for life!”

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or an eager novice, fishing is a wonderful pastime for all ages and skill sets. Here on Anna Maria Island, fishing is one of the most popular activities for locals and tourists so we highly recommend making fishing a part of your next trip to AMI. Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico is an exciting activity with endless opportunities. Not only is it a fun way to fill your day, but it boasts many health benefits as well!

Battling fish big, small, and everything in between, is a workout! Balance requires core strength and flexibility and active fishing engages everything from your shoulders, back, arms, and legs! Our kinda workout. Sweating and soaking in some Vitamin D just adds to the impact. Not only are there physical benefits but spending long hours in nature with a focused task is akin to meditation, an activity linked with lowered blood pressure and decreased anxiety. In our world of over-stimulation and instant gratification, fishing puts your patience and resilience to practice and inspires a closer connection with nature and yourself.

Ted Hughes once said “Fishing provides that connection with the whole living world. It gives you the opportunity of being totally immersed, turning back into yourself in a good way.”

Planning a fishing trip on AMI isn’t just a good way to catch your dinner – it’s a good way to relax, have some fun, and reconnect with what matters. Anna Maria has many public piers, docks, and shorelines you can cast off from, but if you’re not so sure where to start or don’t have your own gear, have no fear. There are tons of excellent fishing captains and boats for hire that can help lead you on your way to the catch of your life. In fact, just over the bridge in Cortez, is the oldest active fishing village in Florida! To say that fishing culture is a part of our community here in paradise would be an understatement.

A few things to keep in mind: There are important rules and regulations by which you must comply to fish from the waters around Anna Maria Island including having a fishing license before you cast a line. You can purchase your fishing license at a local shop or simply by going to MyFlorida.com

Also, there are clear rules on which seasons are open for which type of fish. From snook to snapper and mullet to mahi-mahi, the Gulf has it all. Your professional captain and guides will be able to keep track of all of this for you.

We are here to help and want to get you hooked on fishing in the Gulf. Give us a call at A Paradise and we can recommend some fabulous local captains, fishing spots, and bait shops. Have a reel good time!
