Island Weather

What season is best on the island? This is our un-official recap of the weather. At the bottom of this page are the official statistics.

Summer – Summer sizzles. It is hot, but the gentle sea breezes blow every day, keeping it more comfortable. The days all seem to be carbon copies of one another. All are sunny and wonderful. The clouds build up late in the afternoon and often give us a brief thunderstorm before going away as fast as they came. This is great because the plants get watered, but it does not ruin the day. The Gulf water temperature gets up near 90 degrees, so swimming is great. Almost every evening produces an awesome sunset. Summer here is like summer anywhere else. It is the time that people picnic, boat, swim & play. It is a festive time.

Fall – In late August or early September you can start to feel the change. It is not so extremely hot during the day and the nights start to cool off into the low 70’s. It really does feel very good after the hot summer. It is real comfortable by October with lower humidity. This season seems to be less consistent, though, there can be more “rainy days”. These rain days are still quite warm and not a total loss.

Winter – December through February can be really great. We have had 80 degrees at Christmas, but we have also had 60 degrees at Christmas. The humidity is way down and most people leave their houses wide open, which is really nice. Heat is needed in the houses on a few nights after a cold front comes down from the north. Christmas is great, just like it is where you live. People put up a lot of decorations, because they do not need to freeze their hands to do it. It is a great escape from the COLD in the northern states

Spring – GREAT! In April and May, it starts to warm up consistently in the mid 80’s and it is sunny and beautiful. Fishing is excellent, although fishing is very good all year long.

So what is the answer? Our favorites would have to be spring, summer and fall. But then, We do not live where it snows or my answer might be winter.
