This Weekend Near Anna Maria Island

It’s going to be a busy weekend in the Anna Maria Island area and we’re not just talking about on the beaches with a beautiful weather forecast ahead.

There are two especially exciting events for the whole family and all are welcome! Whether you’re a skateboarder, music and art enthusiast, seafood connoisseur, or just wanting to go on a stroll… Get ready for a fun-filled weekend.

First, The City of Holmes Beach is excited to present the grand opening and ribbon-cutting for The Community Skate Park on AMI on Saturday February 15th at 11:00 AM! The upgrade to this community staple offers so much to our local skaters. The skate park is divided into two sections: the street skating section and a bowl for skaters to drop into. Whether you’re a newbie, a novice, a seasoned pro, or picking up your board for the first time in years – this skate park located just adjacent to the City Hall is certainly worth celebrating. Maybe you’ve never skated before? There’s still plenty of reasons for you to come to the Grand Opening! You can enjoy free refreshments, skate demonstrations, music, and much more.

38th Annual Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival

Second, one of our favorite events of the season: the 38th Annual Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival kicks off Feb 15-16 from 10AM-6PM. Adjacent to the Florida Maritime Museum on 119th St. this festival celebrates the best of Cortez in the heart of Cortez. Cortez has been a notable fishing village for more than 1,000 years so come on out to celebrate this incredible village in our AMI community and reap the benefits of the incomparable locally-caught seafood. Fresh seafood, live music, local vendors, and fun abounds! The best part? Your admission fee gives right back into the worthy hosts: Proceeds from the $5 admission (kids 12 and under are free) go to restoring the 100-acre FISH Preserve, as they have for nearly four decades.

There is always something fun to do on AMI and this weekend is no exception! We hope to see you at these – and many more upcoming community events.
